1003 – Why Not Both?
“Alcohol is a mild poison” has been a house rule within my extended roleplaying circles for a long time. It fits well into almost any setting or metaphysics, and allows you to do interesting things with intoxication.

Hmmm…
Is cleric magic just asking your god for a specific minor miracle each time?
Or do the gods literally just give their clerics spells, as if they were an intelligent spellbook?
I always kind of assumed the former, but the later seems to be mechanically how it works.
Good to see Konsi again though.
The way I personally envision it with way the cleric spell casting mechanics currently work, is that the god provides a certain repertoire of effects the cleric can provide through expending their personal magical energy. The ‘spell-casting’ is more of a prayer of thanks used as a mental exercise, sort of like reciting a mantra, and sometimes material goods are sacrificed as a part of this focusing process. This is just my interpretation though, as the rules just state that you get a list of spells available, pick a limited number you want available each day, and then expend slots (And sometimes materials) to cast them.
This is one of those situations where the game mechanics *can* inform the metaphysics if you want to, but every group is going to have their own idea of how it works.
In our game, Konsi has within her an intrinsic understanding of how to cast a number of spells (the ones prepared on her spell list), and she can hold only so much understanding within her at once. If she meditates and prays to Tymora in the morning, she can ask Tymora to change which magics she has access to, and Tymora will do so for her.
This HAS led to the occasional very strange occurrence where Konsi has sat down and requested a specific spell, and Tymora has… given her a different spell than she asked for. (for example) suddenly being given access to locate creature instead of what she asked for, only to find that she then is tasked to find a missing person later in the day.
Oh, I was worried my Webcomic tracker had stopped working for this site again, but there simply wasn’t a new comic since early may.
Yeah, my apologies. I’ve been a bit swamped, so I’ve been missing comics here and there. I’m going to be a little inconsistent until the end of October, and then I should be back to regular updates.
